We work independently and in association with a range of partner organisations to improve the social and environmental conditions on tea estates.
Monitoring & certification
We’ve been running our monitoring programme since 1997 and work closely with tea producers to address issues and meet international social and environmental standards. Our monitoring programme is free to producers and we use independent third party auditors to check conditions.
We also help producers to achieve certification to Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and Utz Certified.

Producer Support
We provide training and support in 5 key areas that producers often find difficult:
- Factory health & safety
- Fair treatment of workers
- Gender
- Agrochemical management
- Environmental Management
Some of this training is aimed at management to ensure they understand their social and environmental obligations, while other training is directed to the workers to ensure they work in a responsible way.

Strategic Sustainability
We tackle a number of complicated issues that go beyond the normal scope of auditing and certification programmes. By addressing issues such as climate change, social development and smallholder production we’re helping safeguard tea supply and livelihoods. Examples of these projects include:
- Helping smallholder farmers to adapt to climate change, Kenya
- Improving smallholder farmers’ livelihoods, Indonesia
