We’re pleased to confirm that Mabroc Teas has joined the Ethical Tea Partnership. Mabroc is ETP’s 30th member and the first brand from a tea-producing region to join the Partnership. Based in Sri Lanka, the company has been exporting great quality Ceylon tea for more than two decades, and in 2006 Mabroc launched their Ethical Tea brand.
Mabroc is passionate about the social and environmental sustainability of their single garden teas. Since launching the Mabroc brand has won recognition and many awards for their commitment to ethical trade, equal opportunities, and worker well being and livelihoods.
Sarah Roberts, Executive Director, ETP says, “We are very happy to welcome our first packer from a producer region to the ETP. Following healthy expansion within our traditional membership base in Europe and North America over the past few years it made sense to open membership to any company involved with sourcing, trading, or packing tea that’s committed to working with ETP towards a thriving tea industry that is socially just and environmentally sustainable.”
“It’s clear that Mabroc is such a company and their experience in Sri Lanka will certainly strengthen ETP.”
Niran Ranatunga, Managing Director, Mabroc Teas (Pvt) Ltd. Says, “We strive to minimise the impact on the planet whilst taking care of our most valued asset: our people and all involved in the supply chain. We consider ethical trade to be the cornerstone of a sustainable business, which can be passed down to generations, which will naturally promote good relationships with all communities.”
“By working together with ETP we can address the social & environmental issues. We can go further and wider in promoting ethical business practices, for the benefit of all associated with the Tea Industry.”
