Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) is pleased to welcome John Qin as Regional Manager for China.
John will continue the successful work of his predecessor Hubert Chen providing strategic direction to ETP in China and ensuring that ETP’s programmes are developed in the best possible way for the Chinese context. He will also implement project activities, working with partner organisations where appropriate, and represent ETP in the growing Chinese debate on the sustainability of the tea industry.
John is an experienced ethical manager, having previously worked for Sainsbury’s, Marks and Spencers, and Walmart. With over 1000 manufacturing visits measuring activities against the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) base code, John is very familiar with social and environmental standards. He is also highly experienced at running support programmes for producers and helping producers meet the ethical requirements of international buyers. John holds an MBA from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and has achieved various vocational training qualifications including SEDEX, health and safety, and ISO9000.
On taking up the post of Regional Manager, John said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience of good practice in an industry that has such cultural significance in China. Collaboration between companies is a unique approach and I hope to be able to support positive change in the Chinese tea industry and help to ensure the environment is also managed in a responsible way.”
