ETP appoint Ian Midgley as New ETP Chairman

After a rigorous selection process, Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) is pleased to announce Ian Midgley as the new Chairman, following Norman Kelly’s retirement.

Previously Ian worked for Unilever for over thirty years, and held a series of senior operations roles. In 2005 he was appointed the company’s first Chief Supply Chain Officer. As well as chairing the Unilever Sustainable Agricultural board, Ian led a whole range of initiatives including factory health and safety, environmental impact, and carbon footprint reduction programmes; all of which are covered by the ETP Global Standard and are priorities for ETP and its members.

Since leaving Unilever Ian has established a portfolio of advisory, non-executive and coaching activities aimed at helping consumer product industries to develop more sustainable supply chains.

Of his appointment Ian says, “It’s a terrific pleasure to be taking the Chair at the Ethical Tea Partnership. It’s clear that ETP has grown in stature in recent years and is now becoming a real force for improving standards in the tea industry. As I’m getting to know the ETP, I have been impressed by the scope of the programme and the range of complex issues which we are trying to tackle.

“To make a difference in today’s world requires real commitment so our single-minded focus on the particular challenges of the tea industry, supported by expertise close to the action on the ground, sets us up to succeed. Looking ahead, sustainability will continue to be a big responsibility for all of us involved with consumer products. I’m very much looking forward to working with Sarah Roberts and her team to ensure that we continue to build the reach and impact of our programme.”
