The team

Executive Director, Sarah Roberts is responsible for the day to day running of the organisation, its monitoring and capacity building programmes, relationships with certification schemes, stakeholder engagement and the development and expansion of the initiative.  Sarah has fifteen years experience of development and corporate responsibility work. Prior to joining ETP she worked on educational projects in South Africa, spent five years at the International Institute for Environment and Development  and worked on corporate responsibility issues for a range of not-for-profit and large-scale consultancy firms. sarah.roberts@ethicalteapartnership.org

heleenProgramme Manager, Heleen Bulckens is responsible for ETP’s monitoring programme in India and different projects in Kenya. Heleen has a Masters degree in US Studies from the University of London. She previously worked as a Research Analyst with EIRIS, specialising in human rights issues, and before that, volunteered with Amnesty International Thailand, mainly working on the ‘Business and Human Rights’ campaign. While living in Thailand, she also did an internship with the Office of the Regional Representative for Asia-Pacific of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. heleen.bulckens@ethicalteapartnership.org

amandaProgramme Manager, Amanda Penn is responsible for ETP’s monitoring programme in Sri Lanka and Indonesia.  Amanda was previously a corporate responsibility research analyst for the Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRIS) and has also worked as a sustainable development officer at the US Department of Agriculture. Prior to her graduate studies in International Development, she worked in Japan as an English teacher. amanda.penn@ethicalteapartnership.org

jonCommunications Manager, Jon Copping is responsible for all online and offline communications for ETP. He is responsible for brand and logo approval and liaises directly with members about marketing. Jon has a Masters degree in Marketing and a degree in Environmental Science. anuProgramme Manager, Anu Huhtisaari is responsible for the monitoring programme in Africa and Latin America. She is also in charge of the financial administration of ETP. Anu has a Masters Degree in Development Studies from School of Oriental and African Studies. Programme Officer, Beatrice Cameron is responsible for supporting the Monitoring and Certification programme and the development and expansion of ETP’s online social media presence. Before joining ETP, Beatrice completed an internship for an international development archive centre in Berlin and she has over 2 years’ experience working in the charity sector. Beatrice has a degree in Comparative American Studies and she is currently studying Hispanic Studies at masters level. bea.cameron@ethicalteapartnership.org

neliaRegional Manager for Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, Nelia Latief is based in Jakarta and has extensive experience of the Indonesian development sector. Nelia has managed a United States Department of Agriculture funded project and a UNHCR project. In 2005 Nelia worked for Plan International Indonesia managing projects funded by DFID, CIDA, Ausaid, the Netherlands Government (Minbuza). wagurahRegional Manager for Africa, Joseph Wagurah, is based in Nairobi Kenya and is responsible for deepening and broadening ETP’s partnerships with tea producers and local stakeholders throughout Africa, focusing primarily on Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. He has a first degree in Horticulture from Egerton University in Kenya. Wagurah joined ETP in August 2006 from Oserian, a major Kenyan exporter of fresh flowers, where he was Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. Wagurah brings to ETP the experiences gained in the flower sector to enrich the social and environmental practices in the tea industry in Africa. joseph.wagurah@ethicalteapartnership.org

Jane NyamburaJane Nyambura is the ETP Programme Coordinator for Africa and a tea farmer herself. Previously Jane was the Regional Manager for Ethical Business Services in East Africa for the organisation Africa Now where she worked for 3 years. With a degree in Business Administration majoring in Marketing, and a MBA in Strategic Management Jane has excellent credentials. Having worked for the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) for 7 years in charge of standards compliance, she has extensive first-hand experience of working with smallholder famers. Another significant part of her role at KTDA was helping tea and coffee factories to attain Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certification, while also monitoring ETP assessments. jane.nyambura@ethicalteapartnership.org

dushyRegional Manager for Sri Lanka, Dushy Perera is based in Colombo and has been involved in tea for the last 35 years.  He has worked as a tea planter, plantation administrator and finally as a consultant and adviser. He has spent 30 years working in Sri Lanka as well as spending time working in Indonesia and Rwanda. Dushy Is a Fellow of the National Institute of Plantation Management (FIPM) and holds a diploma from the same institute. dushy.perera@ethicalteapartnership.org

lizLiz Smedley oversees the ETP China Programme, communicating with members and working with Regional Manager Hubert Chen to formulate strategy and to implement and deliver projects. Liz was previously a member of the FLO Certification Committee for 3 years, a body which awards the Fairtrade Mark to producers worldwide. She has commercial experience working for a shoe exporter based in Taiwan, and has also worked for Traidcraft to expand market opportunities for fair trade suppliers. She has also undertaken research contracts for the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS). ranjan-01Regional Manager for India, Ranjan Circar is based in Kolkata and is responsible for developing ETP’s partnerships with suppliers and key stakeholders throughout India, primarily in Assam, Kerala, Darjeeling and Tamil Nadu. Joining ETP in December 2007, Ranjan has worked within the tea sector for 28 years both as a planter and a plantation administrator.  He brings extensive knowledge of labour relations and trade unions within the Indian tea industry as well as experience of building partnerships within the agricultural sector. ranjan.circar@ethicalteapartnership.org

Diya SharmaDiya Sharma is the Programme Officer for India. Having initially joined ETP in the UK while studying, Diya is now based in Kolkata and supports Ranjan Circar (Regional Manager, India) with ETP’s monitoring and certification programme, and producer support projects. She has a masters degree in Anthropology of Food from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Prior to joining ETP she worked with Riverford Organics, an organic food collective in London, and spent two years working on biodiversity and farmer’s rights with Navdanya, an NGO in India. diya.sharma@ethicalteapartnership.org
